About BACnetThe BACnet protocol is comprehensive in scope and complex in detail. Built upon an international standards base, it has undergone extensive revisions to accommodate solicited and unsolicited structural ideas from all sectors of our industry. As intricate as it is, however, BACnet's design readily permits future modifications by ASHRAE as building automation requirements change. As our industry, and Alerton in particular, embraces this significant and positive development in building automation, we look forward to serving our customers with even better choices and higher levels of quality facility management. BACnet opens the door to true systems integration. BACnet Information and ResourcesBACnet is the term commonly used to refer to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135-2004, "BACnet: A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control networks," approved and supported by the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). BACnet is a true, non-proprietary, open and standard communications protocol developed and maintained by a consortium of building management, system users and manufacturers. The BACnet Standard and its companion testing standard, BSR/ASHRAE Standard 135.1-2003, "Method of Test for Conformance to BACnet," have been adopted by the International Standards Organization as ISO Standards 16484-5 and 16484-6. The testing standard is the basis for the conformance testing conducted by the BACnet Testing Labs (external
link); devices that pass this testing are awarded the BTL Mark (external link) and are listed by the BTL.
