For Immediate Release:Alerton’s BACtalk Building Security System an Economical Solution for Small and Medium Size BuildingsRedmond, WA (March 27, 2007)—Building automation pioneer Alerton (www.alerton.com) today debuted its BACtalk Building Security system, an integrated, Web-based system for access control, intrusion detection and alarm monitoring. The system enables users to manage and monitor their facility using a Web browser at any time, from anywhere. BACtalk Building Security integrates with any building automation system (BAS), enabling users to control lighting, HVAC equipment and other BACnet-based building systems in response to access events and alarm conditions. The system can be expanded to control up to 16 card readers, or entryways. “When you ask yourself who has access to your building, the answer may surprise you: Employees, cleaning staff, contractors, landlord or property management personnel, and outbound ex-employees,” said Mark Behar, Alerton’s product manager. “Personal safety and asset protection are just two of the many reasons why companies—even in smaller, more manageable facilities—invest in a security solution like BACtalk Building Security.” Alerton’s BACtalk Building Security has three components. The controller is a Web-based, access control appliance that contains a Web server, embedded database and security appliance software. It performs all control logic and stores security appliance data including card holder data, the configuration database and system activity logs. The security controller eliminates the need for on-site PCs or thick client software, and is capable of storing thousands of credentials. The BACtalk Building Security Remote 2 Reader (R2R) module provides a Wiegand interface—a well-established industry standard—to two additional card reader inputs and connects to the security controller over an RS485 network. Users can add up to seven reader modules to a BACtalk Building Security network to increase system capacity to 16 card readers. Each BACtalk Building Security I/O module includes eight supervised inputs for security loop monitoring, eight relay outputs for annunciation and controlled devices; and two unsupervised inputs for controller battery and tamper protection. The I/O module also connects to the security controller over an RS485 network. and can be remotely mounted to minimize I/O wiring costs. The BACtalk Building Security system is available now through authorized Alerton dealers.
