For Immediate Release:

Alerton Announces the BCM-MDBS

Redmond, WA (July 2, 2004)—Building automation systems pioneer Alerton Inc. (www.alerton.com) today announced the launch of the BACtalk Control Module (BCM) MDBS, a BACnet-compliant gateway for connecting Modbus devices to a BACnet system. As part of an Alerton system, the BCM-MDBS increases operational efficiency of HVAC and other building equipment with Modbus configurations because it converts data from connected Modbus devices to BACnet AV and BV objects. The BCM-MDBS mounts to a 35mm DIN-rail and connects to other BCMs in series with a ribbon-cable, which simplifies hardware installation. Up to seven integration and control modules can be combined in series with a single power supply module, Alerton’s BCM-PWS.

“BCM-MDBS is the ideal solution for large Modbus installations—such as a high-rise with a widespread energy metering system,” said Kevin Caskey, Alerton’s vice president and general manager. “The modular nature of BCMs enables very quick, very easy installation, integration, configuration and scalability.”

The BCM-MDBS joins Alerton’s previously released BCMs, including the BCM-ETH, which supports a single BACnet Ethernet and a single BACnet MS/TP network; the BCM-MS/TP, which supports a single BACnet MS/TP network; the BCM-MDM, which offers a pre-configured V.90/56K modem for alarm dial-out and remote operator workstation connectivity; and the BCM-HOTEL, which supports hotel reservation and check-in systems.

The BCM-MDBS is available now through authorized Alerton dealers. For product ordering and technical information, contact your local Alerton dealer or call Alerton at 425.869.8400.
